Semi-automatic pallet wrappers are industrial machines with moving parts.  As with any similar machines, a few simple checks on a daily or weekly basis can keep them running smoothly and help you catch potential problems before they occur.

Your Maintenance Guide

Look. Listen. Act.

Take a few seconds to make a fast visual inspection of the pallet wrapper before wrapping the first load. Look for anything that seems unusual, missing, dirty or broken. For example, see if the fim roll is installed properly, or if there’s film debris under the turntable, or oil leaking.

When you actually wrap the first load, pay attention. Look and listen. If you hear a strange noise, STOP the machine. Be alert for squeaking or scraping sounds or any grinding noises.

Act! If something’s wrong, fix it now. It won’t get better by itself.

Remember to disconnect the power before performing any maintenance procedure. And periodically remind your operators to read any warning or cautions on the pallet wrapper. After a while, these signs tend to become almost invisible.

Regular Maintenance Is the Key

Most folks agree that it’s always easier, less stressful, and less costly to prevent problems than it is to interrupt workflow to repair them. Even the most inexpensive pallet wrappers come with a manual that has maintenance instructions and a parts guide.  You should refer to that for your specific machine, but in general it makes sense to schedule at least the following on a quarterly basis.

  •          Examine the turntable belt or chain for correct tension and wear.  Adjust or replace it as needed.
  •          Examine the film delivery system lift belt or chain for wear.  Replace as needed
  •          Lubricate chains with SAE 30 oil.  That will ensure smooth operation and longer life.

While your semi-automatic pallet wrapper doesn’t require constant care, just a little bit of attention from time to time can go a long way toward avoiding downtime and more costly repairs or maintenance down the line.
